What You Should Know About Microblading

Microblading

Microblading, also known as eyebrow embroidery, is a popular procedure that can help you achieve a perfectly defined and arched set of brows without makeup.

If you’re considering microblading, here is what you need to know.

Microblading Is Customizable

Eyebrow embroidery allows you to customize your look according to your preferences on shape, arch, thickness, and color.

Before the needle ever touches your skin, we will map out your ideal eyebrow shape and help you understand what your results will look like. We’ll also work with you on the perfect pigment to complement your natural color.

No matter what’s in style, whether you prefer a thin or thick brow, microblading is customizable.

Our microblading technicians at Radiant Divine Medical Spa may use one of the following techniques to help you achieve your perfect look:

Microblading Technique

The microblading technique is the traditional method that creates hair-like strokes on your skin.

Shading Technique

The shading technique is what creates “powder brows.” This effect looks more made-up and filled in than the hair-like appearance of microblading technique.

Microblading vs. Shading Techniques

Neither technique is necessarily better than the other; instead, they both have their uses depending on your skin type.

For example, if you have oily skin, the shading technique might be better for your skin type since oily skin tends to distribute the pigment. Because shading already produces a blended effect, it usually complements oily skin better than the microblading technique does.

Some of our patients want a “combo brow,” which combines microblading and shading techniques to help them meet their aesthetic goals.

What You Should Know About Microblading

Many of our patients have questions about eyebrow microblading, the process, and the results. Following are a few of the most important things you need to know.

Microblading Is Not a Tattoo

Many people are under the misconception that eyebrow embroidery is a type of tattoo.

Although there are some similarities, they are actually quite different.

Tattoos are permanent, and tattoo pigment goes deeper into the skin. Eyebrow microblading is not permanent and does not go as deep into the skin.

When you get a tattoo, the tattoo artist uses a device that penetrates into the dermis, which is the mid-layer of your skin. This layer contains many of your blood vessels and nerves, which is one of the reasons tattoos can be painful.

Tattooing deposits pigmented ink into your dermis where it cannot be absorbed by your body. This is why tattoos are permanent.

Microblading, on the other hand, is deposited into the border between your epidermis (top layer of skin) and dermis. For this reason, microblading is not only a more comfortable procedure, but it is also temporary, with results lasting around a year or two.

Microblading Is a Delicate Process

Microblading is safe and effective, but it is a delicate process. In most cases, your eyebrow microblading appointment will last around two hours.

We will begin by trimming and designing your eyebrows according to your goals.

Then, we’ll apply a topical numbing cream to help increase your comfort during the process.

Once the actual procedure begins, we will use sterilized micro-needles to deposit pigment into your skin.

Your Brows May Appear Darker at First

One of the similarities between tattooing and microblading is that pigment appears more vivid initially after your appointment.

After your microblading treatment, your eyebrows may appear darker than expected. This is quite normal and is all part of the healing process. The color usually fades anywhere from 40 to 60 percent once your brows are healed.

Leave Your Brows Alone While They Heal

As a general rule, you should not touch your eyebrows after an eyebrow embroidery procedure. Touching or picking at your brows can interfere with the healing process.

Take Care of Your Brows

There are a couple of things you’ll want to do to take care of your brows for the best long-term results.

For the first week or so, avoid getting your brow area wet. Cleanse that area of your face with facial wipes so that you avoid touching your brows.

When taking a bath or shower, avoid getting your face wet. Your skin must stay dry as the pigment settles into your skin.

For the first two to four weeks after getting your brows done, avoid prolonged sun exposure. The sun can fade your pigment, requiring a maintenance session sooner than expected.

Microblading Maintenance Sessions

Because eyebrow microblading is not permanent, you will need maintenance touch-up sessions.

Depending on your skin type, microblading should last between one and two years. The pigment fades gradually over time, which is why touch-up sessions are beneficial to maintain your results.

Microblading Aftercare

You should expect to avoid applying your normal skincare products around your eyebrow area in the first few days following your appointment.

We may also provide you with a recommendation on a healing cream to use once or twice a day while your brows heal.

Our providers will give you more detailed aftercare information that will help maintain your optimal eyebrow appearance and keep your skin healthy after your procedure.
