Latisse: How Long Does It Take to See Results?

If you have lost your eyelashes or if you have inadequate lashes, then growing longer, fuller, and darker eyelashes is possible with prescription eyelash serum Latisse. However, growing better eyelashes doesn’t just happen overnight: it takes time to see the full results. How much time it will take before you see results depends on several factors. Read on to learn more about this serum that Radiant Divine Medical Spa in Avon, OH offers.

About Latisse

Latisse is a liquid solution that you apply to the base of your upper eyelids. It was developed as a glaucoma drug in eye drop form in 2001. Eye doctors noticed that their patients were exhibiting longer, lusher eyelashes after continuous use. In 2008, it became an FDA-approved prescription medication that is specifically used to treat inadequate eyelashes.

This is a progressive treatment that works best with continued use over several weeks’ time. If you are ready for better eyelashes, take a look at what this eyelash serum can do for you, learn who is and is not a candidate for the medication, and discover how long it can take to start seeing longer, fuller eyelashes.

How It Works

The eyelash growing process with this serum is not fully understood, but eyelashes grow much like the hair on your head. They will grow, fall out, and new hairs regrow. This topical solution extends the growth phase and increases the number of hairs that grow back during the regrowth phase. This makes your eyelashes look darker and fuller, and they grow longer before the falling out phase.

A Proven Treatment

According to multiple studies and recent data from the FDA, 79 percent of people experience changes after using the medicated serum. By week 16, people using the solution every day often experience a 25% increase in the length of their eyelashes and a 106% increase in thickness. While it does work for almost everyone who uses it, the serum is not intended for use by everyone, nor will it work for everyone.

How Long Does It Take to See Results?

Like many medications, the results of Latisse are not instant. It typically takes three to four months before you see full results. This serum works gradually, and most people will not see any results until week four. The first change to be seen is usually in eyelash length. After continued use, thickness and darkness in lashes will appear. At week 16, you should see the full effects of the solution.

FAQ About This Treatment

Is a Prescription Required?

Since this is not a cosmetic product but rather a medical drug in serum form, you need a prescription for it. We employ trained professionals that can prescribe the serum if your goal is to grow thicker, longer, darker eyelashes. You can also get the serum in our medical spa rather than having to take the prescription to a pharmacy. You will be shown how to use the serum and your progress will be monitored with us.

Does It Work the Same for Everyone?

Roughly 80% of patients see results with this serum, which means that around 20% of patients do not see the desired results or no results at all. There are several reasons these patients do not see the results they were anticipating, including:

  • The product being used is not a medicated serum
  • The patient has a medical condition
  • The serum has not been applied correctly
  • The patient is simply in the group that will not see results

Some of these issues can be corrected. For example, you can ensure you are using real Latisse by getting it from us, or you can ensure you use it correctly by getting proper instructions and following them. Other things cannot be corrected, though. For some, this topical medication simply will not work, and there is no known reason why it does not work for some people. If you have not seen results by week eight, you most likely will not see any.

Who Should Not Use the Serum?

Pregnant or nursing women persons should not use this medication because of hormonal changes. People with certain eye conditions should not use the medication, and those with any eye conditions like glaucoma should check with their eye doctor before using the serum.

If you have an eye infection, you should not use the serum because you run the risk of making the infection worse or keeping it from properly healing. If the infection clears, you can use the serum once your doctor approves you for use. If infection reoccurs, you should discontinue use again.

Is It Easy to Use?

Latisse is an easy-to-use medication. Using the sterile applicators included with the medication, the user will swipe the serum onto the upper eyelashes. It only takes a few minutes every day to apply, and it is applied in a similar manner as mascara and eyeliner. It is recommended that you use the serum about an hour before bedtime so that it has time to fully dry and absorb, although you can use it in the morning as long as you do not use any cosmetics for at least 15 minutes after you apply it.

Can You Use Eye Makeup With This Serum?

You can use mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, and other makeup while using this serum. Apply this treatment before your cosmetics. Do not apply any cosmetics (such as face cream or mascara) to your skin or eyelashes for 15 minutes after you use the solution. This allows the solution enough time to absorb into your eyelashes and eyelids. If you apply the serum at night, be sure to remove all makeup before applying it.

Can You Apply the Solution With Any Brush?

You should only apply this solution with the applicator brushes that come with it. Do not use any other items or brushes to apply the serum, as this increases the risk of spreading bacteria to your eyes. Use a separate applicator when applying the solution to each eyelid and then dispose of the applicators. Do not reuse any of the brushes.

Do You Apply It to Bottom Eyelashes?

This solution should not be used on lower eyelashes because it can darken the skin under your eyes. It should be noted that this serum can darken the skin on the upper eyelids, as well, and even the skin around the eyes has the potential to darken while using this serum. It is important to let the serum dry completely before going to bed so that your lashes do not rub it onto the skin under your eyes.

Will This Regrow Eyebrows?

While this medication is not intended for eyebrows, it can cause your eyebrows to grow longer, thicker and fuller, if that is your desire. However, it is not yet approved by the FDA as a treatment for eyebrows, even though some doctors may prescribe the serum to improve the appearance of them.

If you want to use the serum for this reason, speak with our trained staff to determine if that is right for you. This is not approved for regrowing hair aside from eyebrows and eyelashes. Keep in mind that the medication can darken the skin under and around your eyebrows if you use it in that location.

What Happens If You Discontinue Use?

Once you start using the serum, you must apply the solution each night. If you stop using Latisse, your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance. However, undoing the results of the solution can take several weeks or even months. The results vary per individual. If you are satisfied with the results of this solution, you can use it every other day or even every three days once you have reached your desired appearance.

What Happens If You Miss a Day of Use?

This medicated solution is designed to be used each day, but applying it every other day is also okay. If you miss a day of use, do not apply it twice the next day. You simply need to use it as normal to get back on track. Your eyelashes will return to their normal appearance if you stop using the medication, and they will lose some fullness, length, and pigment if you miss using it for a week or so at a time. However, forgetting to use it for a single day will have no effect on your results.
