Cool Peel: Using CO2 Lasers for Skin Rejuvenation

Each year, millions of people get minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. Some of the most popular options are those that offer skin rejuvenation, including laser treatments and chemical peels.

At Radiant Divine Medical Spa, we now offer Cool Peel CO2 laser treatments to help with wrinkles, scarring, and more. Read on to learn about this procedure and the benefits it offers.

What Is a Cool Peel Treatment?

The Cool Peel CO2 laser treatment is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure we perform at our medical spa to help with skin conditions that affect the way you look. It targets the top layer of skin, the epidermis, with an ablative CO2 laser.

An ablative laser works by removing the top skin layer while delivering heat to the underlying layers. With these two steps, it can stimulate your body’s natural production of the crucial proteins collagen and elastin, encouraging new, healthier skin to form.

At our medical spa, we use the Cool Peel Cartessa procedure, which is one of the most effective ones available today. Unlike other laser treatments, the Cool Peel CO2 laser can pinpoint trouble areas on your skin, targeting them without affecting the surrounding tissue.

The device delivers high energy to the treatment site using short pulses of light, giving us more control over heat levels. The device also uses a spray pattern, which makes the procedure quicker.

Cool Peel can help treat these skin concerns:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Large pores
  • Sun damage
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Acne scars
  • Rosacea
  • Blemishes

A Cool Peel CO2 laser treatment is most suitable for people who are in overall good health and want to improve the appearance of their skin without going through a surgical procedure.

If you have unrealistic expectations, are not in good health, have active skin infections, or have very dark skin, you may not be the right candidate for this procedure. Together, we can look for the best treatment to suit your needs.

Benefits of Cool Peel

The Cool Peel CO2 laser treatment is minimally invasive, so you don’t have to worry about going under general anesthesia or dealing with a long recovery process. This laser treatment allows you to get back to your life much more quickly than other options.

Cool Peel is an option that works for practically all skin types. Other resurfacing options have specific skin requirements, but the only restriction that Cool Peel has is that it may not be the best choice for very dark skin.

Cool Peel also makes other skin treatments more potent. We regularly offer serums and microneedling options together with a skin rejuvenation procedure to enhance your collagen and elastin production.

The results of this treatment are gradual and natural because they rely on your body’s internal wound-healing process.

How to Prepare for a Cool Peel CO2 Laser Treatment

We first ask that you schedule a consultation with us so that we can assess your skin and see if you’re a good candidate for Cool Peel. Tell us about all of the medications and supplements you take, and make sure to tell us everything about your medical history.

It’s crucial for us to know if you have had an Accutane treatment in the past few months since that can prevent you from getting this procedure.

If we think you are a good candidate, we’ll ask you to stop using products with retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid for at least a week before the procedure. We’ll also ask that you avoid sun exposure or tanning treatments because these can make your skin more sensitive.

Two weeks before the procedure, you should stop using abrasive skin care products and avoid certain procedures like microdermabrasion and waxing.

If you have a tendency to develop cold sores, we can give you medication to help prevent an outbreak.

What to Expect from the Procedure

On the day of your appointment, don’t wear makeup or contact lenses. We recommend you wear comfortable clothes. The pre-procedure will involve the application of a topical anesthetic, which will take about 30 minutes to work.

The procedure itself can last anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour. If you requested an intravenous anesthetic before the procedure, you will have to have someone drive you home.

Post-Treatment Care

You will need to keep the treatment area hydrated, so make sure to use the products we provide as directed. For the first couple of nights, you should sleep with your head slightly elevated and use a clean pillowcase. You will also want to avoid strenuous activities or anything that makes you sweat.

Don’t touch the treatment area for the first 24 hours, though you can use a cool misting spray if you need to. You shouldn’t wear makeup for the first day. When you do begin to use makeup again, choose options that have a mineral base so that your pores stay clear.
