PDO Thread Lift: A Minimally Invasive Facelift Alternative

Traditional facelifts are highly effective skin rejuvenation procedures that can produce significant results. However, many patients are hesitant to undergo such a procedure due to its invasiveness and the substantial amount of downtime that it requires.

Fortunately, advancements in aesthetic treatment technology have led to the development of the PDO thread lift. At Radiant Divine Medical Spa, we are always searching for ways to better serve our clients, which is why we now offer PDO thread lifts among our many facial rejuvenation treatment options.

If you would like to learn more about this alternative to traditional facelifts, join us as we explore NovaThreads and PDO thread lifts.

What Is a PDO Thread Lift?

The PDO thread lift procedure is designed around polydioxanone (PDO) thread technology. Polydioxanone is used for a variety of biomedical applications, including surgery.

PDO threads are unique in that the human body can fully absorb them over a four- to six-month period through a process known as hydrolysis. This characteristic ensures that the product does not create scar tissue at the application site.

At Radiant Divine Medical Spa, we use a specific brand of PDO threads known as NovaThreads. These USA-made PDO threads are of optimal quality, and they are manufactured in accordance with the latest research.

While the threads themselves will be absorbed after four to six months have elapsed, the effects can last a year or more. This is because the PDO threads can stimulate collagen synthesis. For optimal results, PDO threads should be used in conjunction with other treatments.

How the Process Works

Due to the nature of the PDO thread lift procedure, a consultation is required before you can undergo the treatment. During the consultation, we will discuss the details of the procedure and closely examine your facial features.

Our team will use the information gathered during the consultation to determine the number of threads that will be needed for your procedure. We will also carefully map the placement of each thread.

When you return for your PDO thread lift, our cosmetic surgeon will precisely mark each thread placement location before beginning the procedure. PDO thread lifts are typically performed without general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the treatment and how many threads are being inserted.

Our cosmetic surgeon will insert the threads into the face via tiny incisions made at the designated locations. The threads are attached to the skin tissue and then gently pulled back in order to smooth fine lines and lift the face.

Since you will likely be fully conscious for the duration of the procedure, you will have the opportunity to see the results manifest while the surgeon works. After the threads are knotted, they become hidden within your skin.

There are several types of PDO threads available, each of which produces slightly different effects. We will discuss each of these thread types with you during the consultation and help you identify which options most align with your needs.

What Conditions Does a PDO Thread Lift Treat?

PDO thread lifts are designed to treat mild to moderate sagging in the neck, jowls, brows, or cheeks. They can also be used if the effects of a previous neck lift or facelift are beginning to wane.

Younger patients can benefit from PDO thread lifts as well. NovaThreads can help reduce cheek sagging that has been caused by premature collagen loss or weakened facial muscles.

However, PDO thread lifts cannot remedy volumetric changes or excess skin issues. In order to address these concerns, PDO thread lifts should be used in conjunction with other interventions. During your consultation, we may recommend additional therapies based on your unique patient factors.

How Long Do the Results Last?

NovaThreads are absorbed approximately four to six months after your PDO thread lift procedure is complete. When this occurs, some of the benefits of your PDO thread lift may diminish as well. However, you can prolong your results by combining the thread lift with other skin rejuvenation treatments and products.

Under optimal conditions, you may be able to make your results last for 12 months or more.

Who Is a Candidate?

PDO thread lifts are typically a good treatment option for patients between 30 and 60 years of age with relatively good skin tone. Patients who fall within this category may consider a PDO thread lift if their neck or facial skin is beginning to sag.

The PDO thread lift is most effective when administered to patients who are experiencing minor signs of aging.

Should I Use Other Treatments with My PDO Thread Lift?

While PDO thread lifts will certainly produce noticeable results on their own, combining multiple interventions will produce optimal benefits.

For instance, dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid can be used to address volumetric changes. When combined with the skin tightening effects of NovaThreads, patients can achieve a fuller, smoother appearance. This is just one example of ways to combine skin rejuvenation treatments in order to increase the efficacy of PDO thread lifts.
