Today, we’re answering some of the most frequently asked questions about this filler, including how often you can get treatment.

How Often Can You Get Juvederm?

A significant factor in determining which anti-aging treatment is right for you is the longevity of the results. After all, nobody wants to come in for injections six times per year to maintain their youthful visage. Luckily, with Juvederm, you don’t have to. Individual results vary, but you can feel confident that your results will last between six and 24 months depending on the formula used.

This wide range in possible longevity comes down to the unique manufacturing process used to bind the formulas and the unique size of the hyaluronic acid molecules in each formula. Typically, you should expect to get treatment every one to two years depending since there is no need for multiple treatments to achieve ideal results.

There Is No Permanent Solution

While there is no way to reverse the signs of aging permanently, this collection of fillers provides results that last much longer than other injectables. One reason the results of this treatment are temporary is that your body metabolizes the injected hyaluronic acid. The faster your metabolism is, the sooner your results may fade.

Hyaluronic Acid Degradation

Several factors affect how quickly the injected hyaluronic acid will degrade in your body. Since hyaluronic acid is a chemical compound that is produced naturally by the body, scientists have an excellent understanding of which factors affect the longevity of the compound. For instance, it has been proven that this compound is metabolized faster when your skin is injured or dehydrated. Other factors that affect the longevity of hyaluronic acid include:

  • Your diet
  • How often you move your face
  • Exposure to UV rays

The more mobile the treatment area is, the faster your skin will metabolize the hyaluronic acid.  For instance, hyaluronic acid in and around the lips will be metabolized faster than hyaluronic acid injected into the cheeks.

Realistic Expectations

You must have realistic expectations regarding the longevity of your results. What’s great about this treatment is, even though the results won’t last forever, the results are always reliable.

Regardless of the area targeted for treatment, you can expect your results to fade slowly over the course of several months. This gives you plenty of time to notice your results fading and schedule a follow-up appointment. Here are some timeframes you can expect based on the filler used:

  • Volbella XC – six months to a year
  • Voluma XC – two years
  • Vollure XC – 18 months to two years
  • Ultra XC – six months to a year
  • Ultra Plus XC – 12 to 18 months

How Can You Enjoy Longer-Lasting Results?

There are several things you can do to help your results last as long as possible. One of the most critical steps to take is limiting how frequently you touch your face, particularly as the filler settles into your skin. It is very important to not apply much pressure to the treatment area during the first 24 hours after your injections.

Once the filler has had time to settle into your skin, it is advisable to not receive dermal roller treatments because they can speed up the breakdown of the hyaluronic acid in your skin. Other steps you can take to extend the longevity of your results include:

Minimize Sun Exposure

Approximately 90% of age-related skin concerns are caused by unprotected sun exposure. Also, sun exposure accelerates the breakdown of the injected hyaluronic acid. For results that last as long as possible, wear at least SPF 30 daily and reapply it regularly based on the instructions on the back of the bottle. If you have a family history of skin conditions, wear SPF 55 or higher and minimize the amount of time you spend outside between 10 and 4.

Eat Nutritious Foods

Eating nutritious, balanced meals will also help your skin look young for as long as possible. Each meal, you should try to eat lean proteins, at least one fruit and vegetable, and whole grains. Eating nutritious foods daily gives your skin the micronutrients and macronutrients it needs to produce collagen and other essential proteins and fibers. When you eat processed foods, the essential proteins, and fibers that help your skin look young break down faster.

Watch Your Exercise Intensity

There’s no doubt that working out is great for your overall health. However, you should keep in mind that intense exercise increases your metabolism significantly, and the higher your metabolism is, the sooner the administered medication will break down.

It is particularly important to watch your exercise intensity during the first week post-treatment as the filler is settling into your skin. After seven days have passed, you may resume your usual workout routine.

Minimize Stress

Stress can have a significant impact on your skin’s appearance. For instance, your body produces extra cortisol when you are stressed. This hormone is known to break down hyaluronic acid at an accelerated rate and decrease collagen production.

In other words, stress will severely decrease the longevity of your results. Therefore, it is important to do your best to manage your daily stress. Make time for yourself every day and practice mindfulness exercises when you can’t avoid stressful circumstances.

Skincare Routine

Your daily skincare routine will also affect the longevity of your results significantly. For instance, your results will last longer if you incorporate moisturizers into your skincare routine that include hyaluronic acid and collagen. Retinoids are also great for your skin health and will help to extend the longevity of your results.

Maintenance Sessions

Your results can last for a lifetime if you come in for regular maintenance sessions. We can help you schedule your follow-up appointments based on the formula used so you can enjoy continuous results.

What You Should Know About This Treatment

The first thing you need to understand about hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers is the appointments are incredibly convenient. Juvederm injections are commonly referred to as lunchtime treatments because they rarely take longer than 30 minutes to complete. This treatment entails the injection of the appropriate filler for your specific trouble regions. Here are some other things you should know about the treatment:

Treatment Isn’t Painful

You should understand that your treatment will not be painful at all. All of our Juvederm formulas contain a small amount of lidocaine that will numb the treatment area within 15 seconds of injection. Also, we can apply a topical numbing cream so you feel nothing during any part of the injection process. Furthermore, you should understand that you won’t feel any discomfort once your session is over.

Preparing for Treatment

There are several steps you should take to prepare for your treatment. One of the most important preparation steps you must take is discontinuing the use of blood-thinning drugs and supplements for 72 hours before your session. Also, you should refrain from drinking alcohol 24 hours before your session, and minimize your consumption of salt and caffeine for 24 hours before your session.

Recovery

You should also understand there is no downtime required following your treatment session. Since there is no general anesthesia or sedation required, you are free to drive following your appointment.  However, you should be aware that there are a few restrictions you must adhere to after your session. For example, you should avoid applying an excessive amount of pressure on your treatment area for 24 hours after treatment.

You should also avoid excessive heat and sweating for 72 hours after your treatment. Finally, you should make sure you moisturize your skin regularly, stay hydrated, and eat plenty of lean protein in the week following your appointment.
